Kathakal (Story), the collection of stories from V.K. Ravi Varma Thampuran has won the Dr. Sukumar Azhikode Tatvamasi Award 2018-19 instituted by Dr. Sukumar Azhikode – Tatvamasi Cultural Award.

V.K. Ravi Varma Thampuran is the son of Venmani Vadakkemadathil V.S. Kerala Varma Thampuran and T.K. Chandrika Thampuratti. Born in December 1966, Thampuran pursued his school education from MSCLPS and LMHAS in Venmani, his college education from Christian College in Chenganur and Kerala Press Academy at Kakkanad, Kochi. From 1989 on-wards he is serving the Malayalam daily, Malayala Manorama. Currently, Thampuran is serving as Assistant Editor for the daily in the outside Kerala desk.

Thampuran has won several laurels. He won the K.C. Sebastian Award in 1996 conferred by Kerala Press Academy for excellence in reporting. He has also authored study books such as Kuttanad Kanneer Thadaakam and Punnappara Vayalar Appriya Sathyangal. Thampuran has also served as district correspondent for Malayala Manorama in Allapuzha and Pathanamthitta. He has also published in excess of 50 thesis and several features including environment protection, sustained development, Life of Aadivasis, politics and agriculture. Daily reports and interviews are being published in Malayala Manorama and its other publications. From 2007, Thampuran is active in the realm of literature. He has published three novels and six collection of stories.

For his literary contribution, Thampuran has won several awards including Ettumaanur Kavya Vedi, N.N. Pillai Award, Kanam Award, EJ Award, Madhavikutty Award, Thilakan Award and Mahakavi Ulloor Award. Bhayankaraa Mudi, Shayyaanukamba and Poojyam are his novels in Malayalam. What is more, Thampuran’s newest novel, Orma Nirodhanam will be released shortly. Currently, he resides in Sudharshan, at Thonnaloor, Pandalam. He is married to V.
