Munthiri Monjan Director Vijith Nambiar wins Bharat Murali Award

Vijith Nambiar, director of the Malayalam movie, ‘Munthiri Monchan’, has been selected as the Best Debut Director for the 9th Bharat Murali Award of the Thrissur based Manas Kalavedi.

The award jury rated Munthiri Monchan as “a different kind of film made in a popular format with an emphasis on music” and the excellent combination of subtitles with the story. The award was decided by a jury comprising of Chairman, MA Rahman and Screenwriter Shailesh Divakaran, Illustrator, Sudheesh Kadampully.

The prize consists of cash award of Rs.10,001, a citation and a plaque. The Award will be presented by the end of September 2020 at Sahitya Akademi Hall in Thrissur, Coordinators, MC Rajanarayanan, PM Krishnakumar, Unni and Surendra Panicker informed.

After “Munthiri Monchan”, Malayalam film Director, Music Director, actor and playback singer in the south Indian film industry., Vijith Nambiar is all set to make a biopic of the doyen of Carnatic Music, late Chembai Vaidyanath Bhagavatar with Mohanlal in the lead role.

Munthiri Monjan Director Vijith Nambiar wins Bharat Murali Award.

Born on December 9, 1977 in Kannur District of Kerala to PK Balakrishnan Nambiar and KP Vilasini, at Cherukunnu, he began learning Carnatic music at a tender age of seven. He went to Saint Michael’s Anglo Indian Boys High School in Kannur, his Pre-Degree course at Sree Narayana College also in the same town and graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam in Coimbatore in 1999. He has served in companies including Otis, Danway and XSPlatforms before plunging full time in the celluloid world. Even while he was working in Chennai, Vijith Nambiar was also active in music and serving as Assistant Director in the Tamil and Malayalam movies in the late ’90s. A trained Carnatic vocalist, Vijith learned music from the renowned musician, late BA Chidambaranath in Chennai and later under the tutelage of T Radhakrishnan and Kaitapram Viswanathan Namboothiri. Vijith Nambiar began playback singing in the film industry from as early as 1995 as a track singer for leading professional playback vocalists including KJ Yesudas, P. Jayachandran, SP Balasubramaniam, Mano, MG Sreekumar and others.

Movie Production

Vijith Nambiar, passionate about movies and music forayed into movie production under the banner Vishwas Movies Private Limited. Anurakthi, first 3D Sanskrit cinema in the world is his debut movie production, where he also rendered the first Sanskrit song in a Sanskrit movie in the world. In addition to that, this multifarious personality has also acted in this movie in a supporting role, in addition to being the Associate Director as well. His initial foray into the Malayalam cinema as a Director and Music Director was Munthiri Monchan in 2017, which was an urban music romantic comedy released in September last year.

Vijith Nambiar’s singing career began right from 1995 as a track singer, while his original playback singing debut was in 2018 with the song ‘Thava Chntasu,’ in the film Anurakthi. In addition to that he has also rendered in Albums (non-films) genre with the rendition of the song, Azhakil Pozhiyum, in the music composition of Kalamandalam Joy Cheruvathoor.

Vijith Nambiar has bagged several award on various professions so far. He particiated in Chembai Sangeetotsavam in 1997. Vijith Nambiar was conferred with Amrita Alumni Award for Best Entrepreneurship in 2014 and in 2018 he won the Best Regional Feature Film, Anurakthi in the Rajasthan International Film Festival (RIFF 2018).
