Poet Bineesh Puthuppanam bags Vylopilly Poetry Award for Young Poets 2018 for his work, Paalvili on December 22, 2018 at Kerala Sahitya Akademi Auditorium in Trishoor
Academic, Poet, Lyricist and Artiste, Bineesh Puthuppanam has been conferred with Vylopilli Poetry Award for Young Poets for his collection of poems, titled: Paalvili at an event held on December 22, 2018 at Kerala Sahitya Akademi Auditorium in Trishoor.
That award is instituted in memory of legendary poet of Malayalam Literary Horizon, Vylopilli Sreedhara Menon. The award was conferred upon Bineesh Puthuppanam as part of commemorating the 33rd Death Anniversary of Vyloppilly. A slew of programmes such as recitation of poetry, tribute speech, conferring award, feliciation and book launch. The award constituted cash prize of Rs.10,001 and a Plaque engraved with Mango. Bineesh hails from Puthuppanam village in Vadakara, Calicut. Currently, Bineesh is serving as Assistant Professor at the Malayalam Department of NSS College, Nilamel in Kollam district.
The best of literary minds of the Malayalam language such as Prof MR Chandrasekharan, P Chithran Namboothiripad, Dr. KP Mohanan, Prof KV Ramakrishnan, TK Achuthan Master and Dr. T. Sreekumar took part at the event organised by Vilopilly Smaaraka Samithi. An eligible bachelor, Bineesh is wedded to literature. His family consists of his parents, one elder sister husband and two children, older brother and his spouse.
During his school days, Bineesh was enamoured with drama and mimicry. He has acted in Sanskrit plays directed by the doyen of drama, MK Sureshbabu such as Karnabaaram, Bhoothavaakyam, Madhyama Vyaayogam and Abishekha Naatakam for five years.
Bineesh started a Mimicry Troupe by name Jokes Voice Koilandy and had toured extensively in Kerala with programmes. The current crop of Malayalam movie actors including Vijilesh and Rajeesh were part of this troupe. Later Bineesh focused on small time writing, voracious reading and teaching. During this time, he wrote four collections of poems, seven case studies and editing works were published. Bineesh wrote welcome songs for National Volley Ball Tournament, Kerala State Volleyball Tournament and Kerala Democracy Festival.
Later, Bineesh wrote lyrics for the first ever album released by the people of Lakshadweep titled Nilaavinte Naatukaari in addition to many other albums and Malayalam movies. In a collection of poems, published from Afghanistan, Edited by Kamran Hazara, titled: Poems of Hazara, along with the writers from 65 nations, Bineesh’s poem also found place, which he considers his
Born to Krishna Kurup and Padmavathy, Bineesh was born in Vadakara and he obtained MPhil and PhD from Kaladi Sansrit University. He represented youth poetry of Kerala and took part in International Poetry Festival in Nagpur and Kavyahothra National Poetry Festival in Goa. Bineesh has contributed lyrics for many Malayalam movies. He has also written columns in many Malayalam publications such as Chandrika, Varthamanam and Pravasirisaala. His poems are being translated into languages such as Hindi, English and Tamil. Bineesh also had won several awards including Arnolds Award and Muruvassery Award.

Reacting to the award, Bineesh Puthuppanam told The Indian.News, “I am extremely happy that I received this award, instituted in the memory of one of my most favourite poet, the late, Vylopilly Narayana Menon. Right from my school days, I have been reading his poems. Even after school days, I used to relish all his poems like Kanni Koithu, Makara Koithu and Maambazham. So, an award instituted in the name of Vylopilly is a great honour for me.”
