The Carnatic singing twin siblings, Adwaitha Rajkumar and Adeetha Rajkumar, also known as Palakkulangara Sisters, will give their 200th stage performance at Mayapuri Sri Ayappa Temple in Delhi.

Rajkumar and Devika Rajkumar, couple from Sashamkotta in Kollam District are in cloud nine and in the process of making a big dream. The couple only have time to be proud of their twin daughters, Adwaitha and Adeetha, who are pursuing their class VIII at Brook International School in Shasthamkotta, have made humongous progress in the realm of music. Although, the couple had introduced their eldest son Akshay Rajkumar to learn Carnatic music, as he got enrolled in Navodaya Vidyalaya, he had to discontinue the music classes, paving the way for his twin sisters to take up the mantle.

When the twin girls picked up the basics of Carnatic music from their brother and began singing flawless matching the beats, their father Rajkumar did not think twice. He sent Adwaitha Rajkumar and Adheetha Rajkumar to the rewnowned Carnatic musician, Anayadi Anil Kumar for learning the nuances of Carnatic music. When these twin siblings began learning Carnatic music under the tutelage of Anayadi Anil Kumar at the age of four and by the time the singing sensations completed eleven years of age, they had already performed concerts in more than 100 stages. Rajkumar’s daughters’ musical journey, which began on April 29, 2015 at the Koyikkal Devi Temple, these twin girls have performe in many a stages across Kerala and outside the state as well. Rajkumar attributes his daughter’s success in music as blessings from Devi and their teachers. While expressing these words, one could see the joy shoring up on the eyes of the father, who is working as Section Superintendent at the Kerala State Electricity Board in Chavara. Currently, the siblings are learning advanced Carnatic music from the renowned Carnatic vocal exponent, Dr. K. Omanakutty.

Meanwhile, the twin sisters, Adwaitha Rajkumar and Adeetha Rajkumar also had won the Black Belt in Karate and they are also attaining competence in Bharatanatyam. Right now, the father and daughters have already reached Delhi and are preparing for their 200th Carnatic concert. The mother, Devika Rajkumar is working in Kottarakkara Block Development Office as a Head Clerk. Despite her busy schedule, the mother is giving all kinds of moral support to her daughters. Our twin singing sensations had already performed with some of the most talented percussionists and other accompanists of instruments like violin. The twins are now the shining stars on social media and visual media. After the grand reception received through the television concerts, Adwaitha and Adeetha are also having full presence at the school festivals as well. Recently, a musical concert video of the programme by the twins, brought out by Naada Tarangini Media went viral at the social media domain eliciting millions of visits.

Giving most number of concerts and least number of age is an incredible achievement…that too by the twin sisters. It is doubtful whether anyone else can claim this achievement. In doing so, these sisters had not only made a significant contribution to Kollam but also to Kerala and India and our musical heritage. This past September 18 was crucial for the twins by all means.

It was no small feat that the twin sisters gave concert at the National Music Festival, jointly organised by the Cultural Department of the Government of Kerala, Kerala Sangitha Nataka Academy and Narendra Prasad Drama and Research Centre, among the other established Carnatic vocalists.
