Cochin Lit Fest 2018: Dr. Sigma Sathish bags inaugural Award for her English poetry collection, Serpentine Blues
Dr. Sigma Sathish has bagged the inaugural Award her collection of poems, titled: Serpentine Blues at the Cochin Lit Fest 2018 held at Children’s Park Theatre, Marine Drive in Kochi. The award constitutes of Rs.10,000 cash and a plaque. The book consists of 40 odd poems and Dr. Sigma Sathish received the award from the literary luminary, Sethu.
The speciality of Dr. Sigma Sathish is that her poems revolve around feminism, where the writer portrays women as sun, moon and the stars. Her aim is to highlight the success of women. Dr. Sigma Sathish delves deep into the realms of feminism, where she tries to explore women in its totality. To know her, to analyse her knowledge, her abilities…each line in her verse is replete with women and their world. Each poem in this collection is so tempting that it will automatically tempts the reader to anxiously get to the next verse unknowingly.
Her poems have been published in various national and international publications. Writer and poet, Dr. Sigma Satish is an Assistant Professor, serving the English Department of the NSS College at Neeramankara in Thiruvananthapuram. Dr. Sigma Sathish published three collections of poems such as Summer Dreams, Feminine Blues and Serpentine Blues. Being an academic, she has served in many renowned institutions both in India as well as abroad. In addition to that, Dr. Sigma Sathish has also served in several international publications as Editor and as member of the Press Guilds. What is more, Dr. Sigma Sathish has also collaborated with the Japanese poet Tharo Isu in bringing out a collection of poems, titled: Our Lovely Earth, besides working with a Telugu poet, Ramakrishna Perugu in publishing the book, Poetry of South Asia. Furthermore, Dr. Sigma Sathish has won several awards including Mirabhai Literary Award in 2016 and the current award at the Cochin Lit Fest.
