The Prem Nazir Karma Teja Youth Novelist Award 2018, instituted by the Prem Nazir Karma Teja Friends Committee was conferred to Malayalam author, Shahnas M.A. for her novel, kaleidoscope at an event held in Co-operative Bank Hall, Thiruvananthapuram on April 29, 2019 at 5.30 P.M. V.K. Prashanth, the Mayor of Thiruvanathapuram conferred the award to Shahnas.

While speaking at the event, Shahnas said, “Receiving an award, instituted in the name of Prem Nazir, the legendary Malayalam cinema actor and a great human being for my novel, Kaleidoscope is in itself is like a biggest recognition. A recognition for my biggest desire of becoming a writer. This is like a recognition given to me by the yesteryear deceased actor. I thank each one of those who was instrumental in bringing me to this event.”

Kaleidoscope is a Malayalam novel written in a feminist perspective. As a woman, Shahnas could clearly comprehend the issues faced by women in the society. The novel progresses through the protagonist Durga, a bank official, seen through a Kaleidoscope and the author stands behind it and writes the story. Kaleidoscope, published by Basho Books on October 13, 2018 (Shahnas was then working in Basho as its Editor), now has entered the second edition within a short span of time. Currently, Shahnas is the Executive Editor of Olive Publications, Kozhikode.

Besides being an author, she is also into multifarous things such as social service, Associate Director of a Short Film in Malayalam titled: Me Too and a working mother. Shahnas is a post graduate in Commerce and she is also armed with a B.Ed. Her book is also being translated into Tamil, Arabic and English languages. In fact, the Tamil translation of Kaleidoscope, written by Jayashankar Menon will be launched in this month. The Indian News wishes her well in all her future endeavours.
