When the Sharjah International Book Fair 2019 kick-starts on October 30 and conclude on November 9, in excess of hundred Malayalam books are lined up for release.
At Sharjah Expo Centre, the 38th Sharjah International Book Fair 2019 (SIBF 2019) will be held from October 30 till November 9. There are around 1200 publishers from across the world are taking part at SIBF, while all major Malayalam publishing houses including DC Books, Mathrubhumi, Green Books, Kairali Books, Olive Publications, Saikatham Books, Current Books are attending the mega fair. The 38th edition of SIBF has Japan as the host country.
Mohan Kumar, External Affairs Executive of the SIBF said that the highlight of this edition of the fair was that there were around a dozen odd Tamil books that would be released at the Indian Pavilion, like the previous edition, at Hall Number 7.
There are many Malayalam books that would be launched at the fair including S. Harish, KP Sudheera, Francis Norohna, Deepa Nishanth, Chandra Prakash and more. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram and an accomplished writer, Chethan Bhagat, another ace writer, social worker abdusamad Samadani, Tamil author, Perumal Murugan, Malayalam Sound Engineer Rasul Pookutty, eminent violin exponent and music composer Dr. L. Subramaniam, renowned journalist Karan Thapar, South Indian actor Prakash Raj, actor and painter Nandita Das, writer and politician from Tamil Nadu Kanimozhi, the super woman, who shot into fame through the YouTube Lily singi, novelist and Vayalar award winner UK Kumaran, Malayalam poets such as Anwar Ali Khan, K.V. Mohan Kumar, Santhosh Echikkaanam and Manu S. Pillai are the other prominent faces to make it to the SIBF.
Also, other celebrities like the Malayalam actor, Manoj K. Jayan, Erinjoli Moosa, the doyen of Mappilapattu, International Chefs including Ranveer Brar, Sripa Khanna, Lathika George and Ancy Mathew; social workers like Sister Jesmi, motivational trainners such as Gour Gopal Das, Manoj Vasudevan and others are also taking part.
In Malayalam alone, more than 150 books are lined up for the release on different days during the expo. Most of the publishers from Malayalam literary world are participating in the latest edition of SIBF. Kumar expressed his happiness that this many publishers from Kerala are participating in the book fair and added that it had given additional impetus for the growth of the annual book fair. Most of the Malayalam books will be launched at the newly set up Writer’s Forum hall. The ten day extravaganza will witness more than 2,000 cultural events.
Other political leaders who would be attending the SIBF includes the Minister of Higher Education, Government of Kerala KT Jaleel, MLA Dr. MK Muneer, MP Binoy Vishwam, Malayalam film actors Joy Mathew and Tovino Thomas and around 50 prominent people from Kerala also taking part at this prestigious fair.
