IAF elevates Palakkad native Air Marshal MSG Menon Vishista Seva Medal as Director General 

Air Marshal MSG Menon, VSM is the new Director General of (Wks & Cert), a Press Information Bureau statement said. Air Marshal Menon, commissioned in the Administrative branch of the Indian Air Force in December 1982, rose to become Assistant Chief of Air Staff (AF Wks) at Air Headquarters before currently being elevated with Director General’s position. Before commissioning to the IAF, the Palakkad born MSG Menon finished his graduation from Government Victoria College, Palakkad with BSc as the vocational subject, under the University of Calicut. Menon is also credited with undergoing Higher Air Command Course from the College of Air Warfare and the new Director General is also the alumnus of the Defence Service Staff College, located in Wellington, Ooty and the prestigious National Defence College.

Menon served as a Cat ‘AYE’ Air Traffic Controller and has commanded an operational radar unit at a major flying station. Member of the first UN Mission to Sudan, Director General Menon tenated the appointments of Chief Administration Officer at AF Station Jalahalli, Director National Defence University. The decorated officer has served as the Commandant of the prestigious Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore and Principal Director Operations (Air Traffic Services). On promotion to Air Vice Marshal, he was appointed as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Org & Ceremonial).

Promotions and Accolades

Recognising his distinguished service, Air Marshal Menon was commended by the VCAS in the year 2007. Subsequently the officer was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) by the President of India in the year 2016. Menon (Incidentally hailing from my hometown and also my alma matter in the same college) is married to Lakshmi Menon and the couple’s daughter is married and settled.
