In a great humanitarian gesture worth emulating by all, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Brigadier (Retired) BD Mishra asked the Indian Air Force pilot to take a pregnant woman and her husband to be flown from Tezpur, Assam to the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar in to save her life.

The woman, in her advanced stage of pregnancy was in dire need of medical attention, who had to be airlifted from Tawang to Itanagar. Quoting Raj Bhavan sources, agency report said that the chopper had actually developed a technical snag after refuelling at Tezpur and was not in a fit condition to fly. But, when the Governor overhead the conversation between the local MLA and the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu at an official programme, discussing about the critical condition of the woman. Brigadier Mishra not only asked the IAF pilot take the pregnant woman and her husband in the chopper to be flown immediately to Itanagar but also arranged for an ambulance with a lady gynaecologist at the Raj Bhawan helipad at Itanagar to take the patient to the hospital when the chopper arrived from Tezpur. The good news is that the woman was rushed to Heema Hospital in the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, where she underwent an emergency cesarean delivery.

The dramatic events actually unfolded, when the Governor got down at the helipad in Tezpur for an official function in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on November 28, when Brigadiar Mishra heard the local MLA talking to the Chief Minister stating that a patient with advanced pregnancy was in critical condition as she had to be airlifted to Itanagar to save her life. As there was no helicopter service Guwahati and Tawang for the next three days. Also from Tawang to Itanagar is in excess of 200 kilometres  by road traversing through the hilly terrain will easily take in excess of 15 hours to reach the capital city. When the Governor heard the worried MLA discussing the issue with the Chief Minister Khandu, he was immediately asking the IAF pilot to take the woman and her husband to Itanagar.

The chopper in which the Governor came to Tawang in Assam developed a technical snag, but seeing the condition of the woman, the Governor asked the Air Force pilot to take the pregnant woman and her husband to Itanagar and deputed two officers who had accompanied him to stake back at Tawang to help the couple. Later, Brigadier (Retired) Mishra contacted the Air Officer Commanding of the Air Force Station in Tezpur and requested to send another chopper. The second chopper came immediately. The Governor followed the chopper flying with the patient and ensured the woman was rushed to a hospital and save her life. The agency report further said that when the Governor got to hear that post-surgery, the mother and baby were safe, he did send in his regards to them.
