The Massachusetts born George Herbert Walker Bush, popularly known as George Bush Senior, had passed away yesterday. Born in June 1924, young George’s childhood was spent at Connecticut. Way back in 1964, the starting up of Texan oil business and foraying into politics was in tandem. Just at the age 40, George Walker Bush joined the millionaire club. At the time of World War II, George was an aviator, before being shot down by the Japanese in September 1944, while on a bombing raid, according to the BBC report. He tied the nupital knot in 1945 on Barabara Pierce, when she was hardly 18. The couple had six children born. George’s maiden presidential term in office was credited with twin major developments, the end of Cold War and first Iraq war against Saddam Hussein. History repeated, when his son, George W Bush was elected to the White House, nevertheless the Bush junior served as a President twice.

In a tribute, Theresa May, the UK Prime Minister said: “In navigating a peaceful end to the Cold War, Bush made the world a safer place for generations to come.”
Her Majesty, the Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain termed Bush as “A great friend and ally” of the UK, while the successor of the deceased, Bill Clinton said that the latter and Hillary Rodham Clinton gave “thanks for his great long life of service, love and friendship. I am grateful for every minute I spent with him and will always hold our friendship as one of my life’s greatest gifts.”
Mikhail Gorbachev, former Soviet Union leader lauded George Bush’s contribution to ending the Cold War and reducing nuclear weapons. In fact Bush and Gorbachev signed the historic the first Start treaty back in 1991, which necessitated quantum reduction of long-range nuclear weapons and termed Bush as a “genuine partner.”
The death of George Bush Senior came at 22.10 local time on Friday (04:10 GMT Saturday), a family spokesperson made announcement to the media. It may be recalled that the wife of the deceased Barbara Bush passed away seven months back. Bush was 94 at the time of the death and he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
