Maadathy begins streaming on NeeStream after obtaining court order against piracy for the first time
The OTT platform, Neestream begins streaming of its first Tamil film, Maadathy in Kerala with a court order from Delhi High Court against social media piracy like Telegram.
In fact, Neestream received the interim order from Delhi High Court following a case filed against social media like Telegram. This is for the first time that an OTT platform is releasing a film in Kerala with a court order against piracy. The court order bans illegal streaming of Maadathy directed by Leena Manimekalai, in social media for a certain period.
Manu Abraham, Director of Neestream Creations Private Limited, said the company will fight against piracy, which will destroy the film industry. Maadathy, written and produced by Leena Manimekalai under the banner of Karuvachy Films, began streaming on the OTT platform from yesterday, June 24, 2021. The movie with the tagline ‘Nobodies do not have Gods; they are Gods’ is a coming of age saga of an adolescent girl born in an ‘unseeable’ caste group in the remote South region of Tamil Nadu.
Maadathy is an un’fairy’ tale as it speaks about the ostracised community of Puthirai Vannars, who are forced to wash the dirty linens of the Dalits, the deceased and the menstruating women who must hide from the rest of society because their sight alone is perceived as contamination. Therefore, Maadathy is a reflection on gender, caste, and identity, religious beliefs, and violence. The trailer of Maadathy is a slice of life on how a wronged woman of a slave caste becomes a goddess. Furthermore, Maadathy depicts what it is like being an unseeable woman, living the lowest among the lowest, as a victim to both patriarchy and caste system through the fresh female prism.
Rafiq Ismail and Yavanika Sriram have co-written the screenplay with Leena Manimekalai. Jeff Dolen, Abinandhan Ramanujam, and Karthik Muthukumar share the credits of its immersive cinematography. Although, Maadathy was initially crowdfunded, nevertheless, during the post-production stage, Piiyush Singh from Golden Ratio Films, Bhavana Goparaju, and Abinandhan Ramanujam joined as Co-Producers. Ajmina Kassim, Patrick Raj, Semmalar Annam, and Arul Kumar have given life to the lead characters in Maadathy while the ensemble cast is from the community itself. Thangaraj has handled the editing, while the sound designing is by Tapas Nayak. Karthik Raja has composed music for Maadathy, while Mohana Mahendra has handled the Art Direction and Designs by Pavisankar. Maadathy, winning the hearts of many in the film festival circuits across the world, has now come on to your own screens. Divo Music is Maadathy’s music label.
