Like her father, she wanted to pursue journalism. Again, like any pappa’s daughter, she was passionate about singing too. Also, she has the social bend of mind to do charitable work. So, after finishing her schooling from Girls High School Punalur followed by her Plus Two from the Government Higher Secondary School too from her hometown, she pursued her graduation in Sociology from St. Theresa’ College in Ernakulam.
It was only then, the realisation dawned in her that her real calling was music. The fallout of which was her enrolling for another graduation, this time, in Music at the renowned Srisankaracharya Sanskrit University at Kaladi, the birth place of Adi Sankara.
The final year student is an excellent vocalist and has now completed rendering a full solo song in a Musical Album, composed by none other than the maverick musician of contemporaneous times in Malayalam music horizon, Sharreth! She has also rendered many songs for music albums, covers et al. During her spare time, she sketches artwork on various themes in addition to capturing brilliant photographs. The second daughter of KK Jayakumar, a journalist who is working in Mangalam Newspaper and Ambika, a home maker, Chimmu began learning music when she was in Class V. Her elder sister, Ammu Jayakumar, now a practicing lawyer at Kottarakara Court too is a passionate singer. Chimmu’s mother too sings pretty well, but Chimmu insists, that she inherited her vocal skills from her father. The initial part of her Carnatic music learning was with Sushama Teacher. When she was in Class X, Chimmu learnt her music lessons from Adoor Sudharshan. Right now, she is honing her music skills from Varkala CS Jayaraman in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chimmu took part in the first reality show, when she was pursuing her Plus Two course, where shook part at the Mazhavil Manorama’s Indian Voice. Followed by that, she took part in the Kairali Gandharva Sangeetham. Later, Chimmu performed several stage shows. Now, she has rendered a solo female song in the musical album composed by Sharreth, which will be released soon. Other than that, Chimmu had also rendered songs for the covers, while she is also active in a musical band.
She has participated in the national level competition of the Youth Festival and emerged a winner. Also for the last three years, Chimmu is taking part in the South Zone Light Music Festival in addition to participating in several national level musical competitions.
Chimmu is aiming at becoming a successful playback singer. She loves to take part in the social activities and precisely that was the reason she chose Sociology as the elective subject for her first graduation. Having realised that her real passion lies in music, Chimmu made up her mind and enrolled for another graduation in Music.
Literature is part of the family. Her father too is a passionate reader. Chimmu’s maternal grand uncle is the famous poet, Punalur Balan. In addition to her taste for Literature, Chimmu is passionate about drawing.
Few of the sketches she has drawn has drawn immense recognition in her circle. Her attention to detail is quite evident, be it her singing, sketching or her photography. A quick learner, Chimmu observes the nuances of music at the very instance and reproduces in a flawless manner.
No wonder then, her songs posted in social media platforms receive rave reviews. The young girl is also passionate about her photography. Her attention to detail can be seen in all the frames she had frozen. Her commitment towards whatever assignment she takes up has helped Chimmu to wear many hats at the same time.
