Kerala’s renowned playback singer Saritha Ram (Saritha RC Nair) received the Satyajith Ray Film Society Award on December 24, 2018. The Satyajit Ray Film Society Thiruvananthapuram has conferred Saritha Ram with the Satyajit Ray Rewards and Recognition 2018 at an event held in the capital city of Kerala in recognition of her contribution to music. Yesteryear Malayalam actor Jalaja gave away the award to Saritha Ram.
Saritha Ram’s spirits are soaring and she is in cloud nine, as the vocalist is getting rave reviews for her rendition of the song, Pranavaakaram from Malayalam movie, E (based on Naatakurinji Raga) stared by Gautami Tadimalla and music composed by Rahul Raj and the lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar.
Achievement is a way of life for Saritha Ram. Starting stage show at the tender age of seven, Saritha Ram’s debut playback song was recorded with none other than Padmasree Dr KJ Yesudas for the Malayalam movie, Oru Prathyeka Ariyippu, when she rendered a duet song at the age of ten!
Since then, Saritha Ram had literally not looked back so to say, as she started rendering songs in various south Indian languages on a regular basis, that too with the leading music composers of the day till present such as Dhakshinamoorthi (Dakshninamoorthy Swamy), Punalur Ravindran (Ravindran Master), MG Radhakrishnan, Chidambaranath, Perumbavur G Ravindranath, Mohan Sitara, Bijibal, Rahhu Raj, Jassi Gift, S Thaman and more.
What’s more, Saritha Ram’s latest two Malayalam movie songs were nominated for Kerala State Film Awards, such as Aby, directed by Srikanth Murali and Music composition by Bijipal and E, directed by Kuku Surendran, produced by Sangeeth Sivan and Sarani Pictures. The music composition by Rahul Raj, lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar, the song, “Pranavakaram“, the magnificent song from the movie, E has brought out all her latent talents and her grasp of classical music in a very nuanced and aesthetic way.
The reason as to why she is in full command of both Carnatic and Hindustani genres of Indian Classical Music is the fact that she had taken the pain to learn both. Saritha Ram is a CCRT Scholarship winner in Carnatic Music right from her childhood. Besides being an A Grade Artist in All India Radio, Saritha Ram is also the winner of the title, Isai Selvi, conferred on her by the International Association of Lions Club in appreciation of her extraordinary talent. In addition to that, Saritha Ram had also won the Asianet Serial Award 2007 for the most popular song. Accolades apart, her musical education is just flabbergasting. Saritha Ram the vocal wonder has performed with all leading singers as well as the music shows in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Now, coming back to her command over the twin genre of Carnatic and Hindustani music, Saritharam is armed with a double graduation in Music and Sociology, in addition
to completing the two-year Hindustani Music Course conducted by the Akhila Bharatheeya Gandharva Mahavidhyalay Mandal, Mumbai.
