The highest cricket authority in the country, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has recommended Indian Cricket captain Virat Kohli for the highest sporting honour in India, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, news agency ANI, after confirming with the sports body, said.
Also, the BCCI has recommended former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar for the Dhyan Chand Award, which is the highest accolade for lifetime achievement in sports and games, noted the report. These are in addition to the board’s recommendation of Smriti Mandhana and Shikhar Dhawan’s names for the coveted Arjuna Award yesterday, for their scintillating performances. Apparently, the Board is referring Kohli’s name for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the second time, as it sent his name in 2016, the report pointed out. Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are the two other cricketers who had received the prestigious award in 1997 and 2007 respectively.
