TIN: Can you explain yourself in a nutshell?
AA: I am basically a film director, who also have inclination for singing as well. I have made several short films. At present, I am directing and acting in two forthcoming Malayalam movies, Kerala Express and Eva.
TIN: With the tonal quality of your voice, it is amply clear that you have music training right from your tender age. Can you elaborate on that?
AA: I have flair for singing right from my teens, nevertheless, I have taken up singing serious only three years back. I firmed up my mind to make my covers of my favourite songs. I had deep entrenched influence on music maestros, Johnson Master and Ilayaraja. In addition to my passion areas of film direction and acting, I am also finding time to bring out musical videos.
TIN: How did this new video cover song, Mounathin Idanazhiyil came about?
AA: Guitarist Santhosh Chandran and Nithin koottungal are my close friends of mine, who are instrumental in terms of giving the much needed support and encouragement to bring out the best of my performance. Mounathin idanazhiyil….the latest cover song is also a tribute to my favourite music composer Johnson Master. I was excited to do this cover song and in spite of the hindrances of COVID-19 pandemic and incessant rains, our team managed to shoot this week within few hours. I can’t fully express my unbound happiness to get this released on my birthday today.
TIN: Can you talk about Kerala Express?
AA: We have finished the first schedule of the movie. Actually, we were contemplating on completing the movie in single schedule from Kochi, Pallakkad and Bangalore. But then, due to the pandemic, we had to realign our shooting schedule. It was then the COVID-19 Lockdown happened. We will complete the movie once the restrictions are lifted. The film is produced by Shamsuddin M under the banner, Adhidev Cinemas. Apart from direction, I have donned an important role in this movie. Manpreet, who has acted in Akshay Kumar’s Bollywood film Good News and Salmaan Khan movie Tubelight, is doing the female lead in Kerala Express. Riyaz Khan, Siddique, Shine Tom Chacko, Lena, Rohi Raveendran and more. Ishaan Dev is my friend’s son, who is doing the central character. Kerala Express is essentially a family entertainer, that narrates the tale of a group of friends, with equal messure of action sequences. I have done the character of Manu. The video song, Ithu Vazhi rendered by me and Vimal PK with additional vocal backing by Sumesh Somasundar, has been released in March and has elicited excellent response. The lyrics are provided by Adarsh Venugopalan.
TIN: Can you share little bit of insight on your background?
AA: I am basically from Thrissur. I have obtained MSc Chemistry and I have worked as Chemical Engineer in firms based out of Dubai and Singapore. I forayed into the art field only three years back. In addition to singing, I am also composing music. I have done about ten music albums so far. Also, I have rendered playback singing in a couple of movies in Malayalam. In Kerala Express too, I have rendered a song. The music composition for this movie is also from my side.
